Episode 27 New York Art Fairs

Zavier from Charle Smith Gallery

In this episode Jason traveled up to New York City. He went to some of the art fairs that where going on and because of the coronavirus outbreak happening, people where bumping elbows instead of Shaking hands. He wasn’t able to make it to all of the fairs, but the ones he did attend were diverse and accessible. They were small more intimate and were happing on multiple floors. Jason was able to grab some interviews at Volta Art Fair and Spring/Break Art Show. First up is  Kamiar Maleki. Kamiar is the fair director for Volta.  Next up the Safarani Sisters. They are visual artist and that use painting and video projections. Zavier, Gallerist for Charle Smith Gallery and he is an artist that had his work shown by C&C Gallery and his work was at Volta as well. They talk about his gallery and the theme in the booth. Rinus van Hall is a visual Artist who painted self portraits with social media filters and the fear that might come with them. Last but not least Jeila Gueramian. She created a nice and warm, cozy environment at Spring/Break art show. Want to say a huge thank you to Volta and Spring break art show. Episode 23 Art Fair Coverage

In this episode Jason went to Miami, Florida to cover the many art fairs that happen in the first week of December. Twenty-six fairs in total and he just went to only a quarter of them. It’s a challenge to cover one art fair but to cover many is the true challenge that can change a person. Jason’s first stop was Scope Art Fair which by the way is coming up in March of 2020. (the 5th thru the 8th) where he went Tim Conlon. Tim does photorealistic works of freight train graffiti. Tatiana Palinkasev

While still at Scope Art Fair, Jason came across booth D29 that’s where he met Tatiana Palinkasev of Metamorphosis Art Projects. They discuss Georgii Unv’s pantings and their meanings and for some of the paintings, how long they took to dry. Aqua Art Miami

Jason then went to Aqua Art Miami Opening. I waited in line for a bit and met collectors and we had a great conversation about passion and art. Once inside I started to notice in the different rooms had environmental themes and themes on gun violence.

After that he was off to Pulse Art Fair where Jason met Julie Brookman. Julie does encaustic painting of seascapes. And they look like photos that were taken with a drone. Then it was time to meet up with Cristina Salmastrelli. Cristina is Pulse Art Fair’s Director. Jason had the opportunity to interview Cristina they talk about how she got her start and why Art fairs are important. Art fair fatigue is a thing! It’s real you got to pace yourself! The fairs know this and have different ways of working with it Pulse had the aromatic smells Untitled Art Fair had a space for one to mediate and relax.  Untitled was nice, lots of great work I got to meet Catharine from Catharine Clark Gallery and we about Stephanie Syjuco work that was there in the both.

CADAF

The next day Jason was off to Wynwood the first stop was CADAF. CADAF dedicates itself to digital and new media art. So Jason sat down with Andrea Steuer the fair’s director and Fanny Lakoubay the Public relations and curator for CADAF. If you went to learn more about CADAF you can go to the website at CADAF.art. Art Miami and Context Art Miami

Jason then made his way to the Wynwood walls along the way he saw a lot of street art. The walls were great and lots of people where there and the walls had some good hard hitting themes.  Jason then started off to Art Miami its about 2 miles from the walls and he saw more street art along the way. Once Jason got to Art Miami I enjoyed seeing blue chip artist and meeting new people. The last fair that Jason went to was Art Basel Miami. He saw Theaster Gates video Dance of Malaga and Isaac Julien’s Lina Bo Bardi video as well. And yes Jason did see the Comedian, the banana duct tape to the wall, and had his picture taken with it. So with that, it was an adventure and a challenge. A huge thank you to everyone how had the interviews and a huge thank you to the fairs for allowing Jason to cover them.

Episode 20 Superfine! Art Fair

For this episode Jason went to Superfine art fair in Union Market Washington,DC. SuperFine is different. The idea behind SuperFine is to reach out to new and novice collectors as well as galleries and emerging artists by putting them in the same room. While walking around, you wouldn’t feel overwhelmed by all the art work. The artists and gallerists where engaging and friendly. There were varied artwork styles and sizes on display and diverse DMV artist representation. Overall, a very positive, balanced and engaging art fair. With that here are a few artist and gallerist Jason interview at the fair. Sumner Crenshaw is an artist from Fredrick, Maryland. Nina O’Neil from Monochrome Collective based in Washington,DC talks about the use of space in one’s home. Next is Nina Harrast and Sean Micheal Pattern out of the wilds of Fairfax, VA.
