DC Walls is part of a global festival dedicated to murals and the artists who make them. Since its founding in 2010, the festival has expanded from its origins in Hawaii and grown into a global network of artists. Secret Walls, brought back to DC for 2022, brings artists together to paint a mural before a live audience within 90 minutes. It’s raw, fast and fun! Episode – 63 Henry Mandell

Welcome to yet another episode of ArtBox DMV. In this episode Jason met up with Henry Mandell at the opening of a group show that he was in at the Seattle NFT Museum. Henry’s works are creations of his ongoing survey of contemporary artistic practices, scientific principles, the human condition and their the effects they have on our lives. He was trained as a traditional painter and printmaker, he uses computer software to build engrossing abstract imagery. They talk about that and rules of design elements, when a piece of art is finished and of course, his words of advice. Episode-61 Seattle Art Fair 2022

Hello and welcome to ArtBoxDMV! It’s been awhile but Jason is back and in this episode he traveled to the Seattle art fair. He was able to catch up with old acquaintances and met some new ones. From local galleries to national and international galleries, The Seattle Art Fair itself was diverse in subject matter and talk back events. In this Episode Jason met up with Helen Zughaib at her exhibit in the Hall of Nations at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Helen is a visual Artist that paints with gouache and ink on illustration board and canvas. Her work is about creating empathy and dialogue to see through other peoples eyes. They talk about her ongoing series Syrian Migration, the role of color and patterns play in her work and the mediums she uses to help tell these stories. Episode- 58 Gabriel Shaffer

In this episode Jason reached out to Gabriel Shaffer. Gabriel is a visual artist, muralist, writer, curator, and Gallerists. Gabriel’s works rethinks rural Southern spiritualism in a realm of archetypal stories with an urban approach. He uses elements of comic book illustrations, graffiti, Native and Mesoamerican symbols through the lens of visionary/outsider art. With an accompaniment of creatures and characters, Gabriel uses these mythologies over drawings, assemblages, and paintings. Gabriel is also curator at Mortal Machine Gallery in New Orleans. They talk about his exposer to outsider art, his personal mythology, What makes American Folk Art one of the purest forms of American Art, the origins of Mortal Machine Gallery and his advice to other Artist.
